Giancarlo Fassina
Giancarlo Fassina (1935–2019) was an Italian architect and lighting designer whose career was defined by a deep understanding of light in all its forms. After graduating from Milan Polytechnic, he specialised in lighting design, focusing not only on illumination but also on the subtleties of shadow, exposure, and spatial perception. Fassina collaborated with leading lighting manufacturers and contributed to numerous museum and exhibition installations. In 1989, he was awarded the prestigious Compasso d’Oro alongside Michele De Lucchi for the design of Artemide’s iconic Tolomeo lamp—now considered a benchmark in contemporary lighting design.
