Vico Magistretti

Vico Magistretti was a pioneering Italian architect and designer, born and educated in Milan. Internationally celebrated for his timeless, minimalist aesthetic, Magistretti’s work is featured in the permanent collections of major design museums, including MoMA in New York. His collaborations with iconic brands such as Artemide, Cassina, Fritz Hansen, and Oluce produced some of the most enduring pieces in modern design history.

Among his most acclaimed creations is the Vico Magistretti lamp collection, including the award-winning Eclisse (1967), which earned the prestigious Compasso d’Oro. These lamps exemplify his philosophy of elegant simplicity rooted in cultural and historical awareness. Today, over 80% of his designs from the 1960s onward remain in production—a testament to their lasting relevance and appeal.

Magistretti’s influence extended beyond product design into architecture and education. He was an honorary visiting professor at the Royal College of Art in London and a key figure in post-war Italian architecture, contributing to both urban planning and residential design.
